Why are regular hours being deducted with weekly overtime and is this legally compliant? Follow
If you notice weekly overtime hours appear to be deducting or removing regular hours worked, it likely has to do with how your workweek and pay period line up.
uAttend calculates weekly overtime on the last day of the workweek. We ensure that weekly overtime is calculated accurately by deducting regular (REG) time and adding them to overtime (OT) as employees received their regular rate for all overtime hours initially, potentially on a previous timecard, and this adjustment makes up the overtime differential for the pay period. This approach prevents double payment - ensuring employee hours correctly account for overtime without doubling up (i.e. calculating both regular and overtime rates on the same hours, which would result in a 2.5x rate).
If this sounds confusing, don't worry! uAttend handles these calculations for you. Check out our article breaking down weekly overtime calculations in a Semi-Monthly Pay Period if you'd like to learn more.
Is this method legally compliant?
Yes, uAttend's approach to calculating weekly overtime is legally compliant. Our system has been configured to comply with federal and state laws. If your location or organization follows specific state or local laws regarding overtime, be sure to configure your workweek and overtime settings to align with those requirements.
