Who Can Assign or Edit Deductions?
Only the Payroll Administrator for the account can assign, edit, or remove deductions in uAttend. If you're not the payroll administrator on the account, reach out to your account's admin for help.
Locating Deductions and Garnishments
Both Deductions and Garnishments are listed in the Deductions tab of the Job and Pay section of a person's profile. The Deduction section only displays in an employee's profile after your account is ready to process payroll and the person is pending or onboarding for payroll.
For help with onboarding, see Getting Started with uAttend Payroll or Set Up a New Person for uAttend Payroll.
To view deductions or garnishments:
- Log in to the web portal as the Payroll Administrator.
- Click on the People tab.
- Click the name of the person to go to their profile.
- Click Job and Pay in the left navigation menu.
- Select the Deductions tab near the top of the profile.
How Deductions and Garnishments are Displayed
Deductions and Garnishments are listed in separate sections in the Deductions tab of a person's profile.
Each item displays the name and the amount of the deduction or garnishment - either a fixed amount or a percentage.
If a name is long, it may be shortened in the list view. Hover over the name to see the full version.
Which Deductions You Can Manage
You can assign, edit, or remove deductions directly from a person's profile if they fall under one of the following categories:
- 401k Plan
- Section 125 Plan
- General After Tax
- General Pre Tax
If a deduction is editable, expand the deduction to make changes. You can choose the deduction type, enter and update the amount, and save your changes.
Check out these articles for more information:
If a deduction is not editable, it is likely a custom deduction.
Custom Deductions
Custom deductions are view-only in uAttend, meaning you can view but not edit them in the web portal. Any custom deduction will display "Custom deduction" next to the name instead of an amount.
If you need to make changes to a view-only deduction, click the Contact Us link in the Deductions section to fill out a short form. The form opens in a new window with a dropdown to select your request type and a field to enter details. For more guidance on using this form, see Requesting Help with Deductions or Garnishments.
How Garnishments are Managed
Garnishments are also view-only in uAttend. All garnishments assigned to a person are listed in the Garnishments section within the Deduction tab, but cannot be updated in the web portal. To request a change to a garnishment, use the Contact Us link in the Garnishments section.
When Changes Take Effect
Updates to deductions and garnishments apply to payroll based on when the change is made:
- Before running payroll: Changes made before a pay run is started will be included in that pay run.
- During a pay run: If payroll is already in progress, changes will apply starting with the next pay run. To apply changes to the current pay run: delete the pay run, make the updates, and restart it.
- After submitting payroll: If the pay run has already been submitted, contact us to request changes.
