Troubleshooting Incorrect Overtime Calculations Follow
If an employee's overtime calculations appear to be incorrect, the issue is often related to how lunch punches are assigned to departments.
This most commonly happens after an employee changes departments, but it can occur anytime department transfers are used. The system calculates hours by department. If a lunch punch is assigned to a different department than the employee’s worked punches for that day, the time calculations may be incorrect.
What You Might Notice
- An employee is paid overtime even though their total daily hours are under your set threshold.
- Daily hours are incorrect.
- Overtime is higher or lower than expected.
Set the Lunch Punches to the Correct Department
To resolve the calculation issue, make sure all lunch punches are assigned to the same department the employee worked, then recalculate the timecard.
- Enable department transfers for the employee (if they are not already enabled).
- Open the employee’s timecard.
- Click Edit on a lunch punch.
- Assign the lunch punch to the department the employee worked for that day and save the changes.
- Repeat steps 3–4 for any additional lunch punches on the timecard.
- Recalculate the timecard.
- If department transfers were previously disabled, turn them back off for the employee.
